FoozBawl Town

Alright, well as many of you know, I grew up in what I always called or thought of as a semi- but mild football town. My evidence to this was that the town almost shut down on Friday nights for football games, which could be reputed due to the fact that the streets rolled up at 6pm anyway. However, fast-food places would, because it was obviously good for business, stay open for extra hours until well after the games were over, shops would post signs in their windows, "Go Wolverines!" etc. Other things, were just the town's general attitude when it came to football games. No biggie, I mean I went I'm not really complaining it was something fun to do on a Friday night; it was a social event.

Recently I had the opportunity to witness a true football town experience. Without naming the town I was in, except to say that is in the tri-state area, my wife and I arrived to the school/stadium quiet a bit early, a trait my late father would be glad to know that I have picked-up. We still did not arrive as early as I would have liked, but we had little trouble (probably be cause we had VIP parking) yeah VIP parking at a High School Football game... news to me. Anyway, so when we arrive, there are already people parking on the road leading to the school, well outside the gates, surprise surprise, Dade County never parked that far as far as I can remember. I know it is normal to not see any grass anywhere on school property and occasionally when playing North Sand Mtn they would park road side by the entrance but still on school grounds, when a DCHS football game is going on. Nope, here they were already parking way out off school grounds.

Once we got past the gates I found the VIP parking lots. Driving through to find our place, we noticed the most amazing thing I never thought I would see at a High-school football game, Tailgating. There was not just one or two people, nearly every car we passed was tailgating, the ones that were not tailgating themselves were partaking in their neighbors grill.

After we find our, VIP parking place, we then collect our belongings and work our way to the ticket box we hand over our VIP cards, not expecting to get them back, we did. Cool! This is like a season pass! So we then begin the arduous task of finding a seat not infected with too many teenagers that look like they would chat or create too much of a ruckus. Oh geez I sound like an old man. Being a HS Band Geeks, I also wanted to get a seat that met my aforementioned criteria yet still provided a good view of the band while on the field. I thought, as always, mid-field is a good spot to watch the band. Oh wait, from forty to forty, is, hold on to your hats -- get this, Season Ticket holders-only seating. Yeah ok wow! This is a trip! Other than all this, it was a normal high-school football obsessed game.

Honestly, I plan to start visiting these football games more often. I even checked it with my former high-school's schedule and luckily there aren't any real conflicts.

Backlash and Playoffs

NHL Playoffs:
Well it is official, now that the Stars have been eliminated from the playoffs I have one team that I can rally behind. As many of you know my team is the Penguins my next two teams that I support equally behind my Pens are the Thrashers and Predators. After each of those three teams were eliminated, the next team I support is Dallas. I remember when the Stars were in Minnesota and I supported them then. I watched them be put out, very sad. The only team I can support left in it is the Anaheim Ducks. This could be an interesting series.

WWE Backlash:
Well I am looking forward to Sunday (29 April, 2007) I will be going down to Atlanta to see the Hardys and HBK at WWE's Backlash! I can't wait, this will be my first WWE event, not to mention my first WWE PPV event. I've gotta make some signs...

Sports news from Atlanta

Alright I'm excited I just finished watching the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Buffalo Sabers!
[w00t]x2
Unfortunately my Smashville Predators lost to the Detroit Wings :-(

Shortly prior to the Buffalo goal with 6 seconds left to go in 3rd period (OMG that makes me sick) I received a call from my brother-in-law, I'm going to see Atlanta take on the NY Rangers! [w00t]x2

But the greatest news of all Pittsburgh signed their deal to get their new Rink!
WOOOOOOOO HOOOOOO! Penguins will STAY in Pittsburgh!

In related sports news... not really anyway, I think NASCAR is following me around. Last week I was in Vegas and the race was there that weekend, man I would have loved to see that, except for JJ winning. This week I am in Atlanta and guess where the race is this weekend. I REALLY wish I was going to be there for the Atlanta race :-( That race is soo freakin' cool! Can't wait for 'Dega though. Not to mention that Jaime and I now have tickets to do the Richard Petty Driving Experience that too I cannot wait for!
Alright I'm tired so I'm going to bed.

NASCAR Rant...

Ok, as some of you know, I am a fan of NASCAR. Like all fans of the sport I have my drivers that I like and I have my drivers that I don't. One of those drivers that I don't like is the 48 Jimmy "Greasing the Palms of NASCAR" Johnson. At the time of this article's creation we are roughly 30 laps into the GFS Marketplace 400 in Michigan. It seems to me that when someone cuts a tire and goes on to pit road and is scored 2 laps down (according to whatever the tv announcers are looking at) then that person comes back on the track. Then there's a caution. The person who just got back on the track should get "A" lap back correct? Yep! WRONG If it's the 48 they get as many laps back as they want. Sure if the 16 was down 43 laps and got the lucky dog then they would be 42 laps back -- BUT if the 48 gets 73 laps down and get a lucky dog they're back on the lead lap!! WTF is THAT?!?!

Way to Frickin' go nascar! Why not just let Johnson have Every Lucky dog so he's 5 or 6 laps ahead of everyone else on the track. I mean Come On! I know that NASCAR has their drivers that they always seem to turn their heads on... my Hero driver's one of them but when you have one that really seems to get Super-hero treatment... somethings not right..?

Go 8! Go Roushketters (6, 16, 17, 26, 99)!
